Voll Damm receives a Superior Taste Award 2009

Voll Damm receives a Superior Taste Award 2009

Voll Damm has received the maximum award (an score of three stars) at the Superior Taste Award 2009, organized by the International Taste and Quality Institute of Brussels. Worth to mention that Damm inedit was scored with two stars. This means that, according to this experts, Voll Damm is much better than inedit. while Voll Damm was considered exceptional, inedit is just remarkable. I fully agree with this opinion (see my previous post). In addition, Voll Damm is much cheaper than inedit. In fact, Voll Damm offers a very nice quality/price ratio.

Mare Nostrum (2/2)

Mare Nostrum
Via Porto 31, Cantiere Soriente, Salerno, Italy

This is the second post devoted to this place. In this case, to the building. It is very close to the sea, with very large windows that let the fresh air to enter the dinning-room.

In the photo you can see that they have a bottle of "Cardenal Mendoza". They also had Carlos I

In conclusions: very nice atmosphere.

Mare Nostrum (1/2)

Mare Nostrum
via Porto, 31 c/o Cantiere Soriente, Salerno, Italy

This is the first post devoted to this place. It was a social dinner. Thus, I do not know the price, but I can assert that the quality of the fish was really good. Extremely fresh stuff.

Bunyols (quite tasteless):
fried cod:
wonderful prawns with vegetables.
an outstanding octopus. One of the bests that I have ever tasted!:

toasted bread with tomato and olive oil (unfortunately this stuff should be prepared just before eating. Otherwise the tomato destroys the texture of the bread):
pasta (extremely hard, much harder than al dente. This was the worst dish):

a very delicate, tasty and extremely fresh sword fish. Very good The prawns were correct.:

assorted fried fish. The sardines were one of the best that I have ever tasted!:

assorted fruit:

assorted cakes (really good!):

Ferrarelle

Ferrarelle

This is a very good natural sparkling water.

When it rains, the raindrops that fallo n the extinct volcano Roccamonfina penetrate through to the subsoil. Thus begins the slow journey lasting a good ten years that leads to Ferrarelle sparkling natural mineral water. The water flows inside the volcano where, inside the pyroclastic blanket of rock, it is purified and absorbs certain minerals, including magnesium, calcium and bicarbonate.
During its underground course the water meets with carbon dioxide which gives it its natural sparkle. The CO2 rises up through the faults in the deepest parts of the calcareous basement where it is generated, and dissolves in the water.
As a curiosity it is worth to mention that it is a good stain-remover if applied immediately.

Romolo pasticceria di Mazza
Corso Garibaldi Giuseppe 33/4, Salerno

These are nice cookies produced in a Salerno Pastry shop. Really home-made, not industrial. Worth to taste them if you are in Salerno.

A nice cookie. It reminds me the shape of a bottle's cap:

Enate Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2006

Enate

This is a nice cellar that produces good wine and label designs. In my opinion the most expensive wines of this cellar are not competitive, but this is not the case of the quite cheap cabernet-sauvignon-Merlot, which is below 6 eur per bottle.
The label of this bottle is quite curious. Both sides (front and rear) are closetogheter, instead of the classical way with two portions.

Shunka

Shunka
C/ Sagristans 5, Barcelona

This is an outstanding japanese restaurant in Barcelona, close to cathedral (behind hotel colon). I strongly recommend it. Very very high quality. You can find some more interesting photos and a nice video here. The unique drawback is that this place is quite noisy. If you plan to go there, pease, book in advance.

nice movements due to temperature (unfortunately you cannot appreciate here, in a static photo). Very delicate and plenty of taste:

toro tataki (outstanding tunna fish, very well prepared):

vieira with mushrooms (get a look at the blue color behind the vieria. It is fire!):
gambes de palamós (the most outstanding prawn's head that I have ever tasted) They are not cheap (this dish costs 20 EUR) but this is "normal" when you go to outstanding fresh quality.

liquor icecream. deserts were quite cheap and simple:

japanese tea:
